| COACH BURTON: "Pape Sow has been great. He has stepped up
and really wants to get to the next level. He’s been a leader out there and
has really practiced hard and played hard. He still needs to get into better
shape but once he does he will obviously be one of our top players."
Pape Sow (pronounced POP SOH) followed cousin Babacar Camara
from Dakar, Senegal, to the Titans' roster two years ago afer a detour to Chaffey
College... He has had an eventful career to date for the Titans... His outstanding
athletic talent, potential to improve and willingness to work mixed with his
tremendous development during the course of his first season and an impressive
performance at Tim Grgrich's summer camp in Las Vegas have excited the professional
scouts... Despite some rosy predictions, he went undrafted after an interrupted
junior season... He has a wide wing span which leads to numerous blocked shots
and steals at the defensive end... He has posted 14 career double-doubles (points
and rebounds).
CSF IN 2002-03: Averaged a team-high 8.8 rebounds and a second-best
13.8 points per game while playing in 18 games... Finished the year strong,
averaging 11.3 rebounds over the final six games... Had 43 rebounds in the
last three conference games including a Big West Conference high of 17 vs.
Cal Poly on Mar. 8... His 14 free throw attempts at USC tied for the Big West
single-game lead... After the season's first seven games he was averaging 15.9
points and 8.7 rebounds but the Titans were only 1-6... He then missed 11 games
for disciplinary reasons and in that span the Titans went 5-6 without him...
Fullerton lost its first three games after his return before splitting the
final eight... He suffered an ankle injury on a hustle play that helped the
Titans force overtime vs. Utah State in the opening game of the Big West Tournament
and was sidelined for several weeks... He posted eight "double-doubles" of
points and rebounds to lead the Big West despite missing more than one third
of the season... Next best total was five... Had four in a row early in the
season... He was featured in the 2002-03 College Preview edition of SLAM magazine...
Spent one season at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga.
CSF IN 2001-02: Earned second-team All-Big West Conference
honors even though the Titans won only five games... Led the team in scoring
(15.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.6 rpg) while playing about 33 minutes per game...
Also led team in field goals and attempts, free throws and attempts and minutes...
Was second on the team in blocked shots (32) and steals (35)... Aggressive
to the basket, he went to the foul line 182 times, or more than twice as many
times as any teammate and more than any player in the Big West except Player
of the Year Jerry Green of UC Irvine (219)... Breakout game came Dec. 6 at
Sacramento State when he came within two points of Richard Morton's school
Div. I single-game record of 38 points... Scored 28 points at Cal State Northridge
on Jan. 24 and 27 vs. Long Beach State on Jan. 31... Best rebounding total
was 12 on three occasions... Had six double-doubles.
CHAFFEY COLLEGE: Played in only the 2000-01 season for Coach
Nerses Kopalyan... Averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds.
