| Biography: |
| Derick Andrew will likely see more time at the off guard position in 2002-03 than the point guard spot he handled for more than 800 minutes last season... "A lot of pressure will be alleviated from his shoulders at his natural position off the ball," says Coach Daniels, "and that should make him a better defender and put him in a position to look for his shot"... Derick started all 27 games last year as a sophomore and averaged 7.0 points and 3.5 assists... He averaged more than 30 minutes per game but he committed more turnovers (105) than he handed out assists (94) after sitting out the 2000-01 season under the rules of Proposition 48... His best game came on Dec. 15 in a home overtime victory over Sacramento State... He scored a season-high of 17 points including 10 of 10 from the foul line -- 8 of 8 in overtime... He had a second best of 16 points including a best of three 3-point field goals on Feb. 21 vs. Pacific... His best assist total was 6 on four occasions... He just missed matching Cedric Ceballos' single-game school record (9) when he was credited with 8 steals at Long Beach State on Jan. 5.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year letterman at Rancho Cucamonga High (class of 2000)... Most Valuable Player of the Mount Baldy League and Player of the Year by the Daily Bulletin as a senior for Coach Bill Moyer... Averaged 21.3 points, 4 steals and 3 assists per game... Selected team player of the year three times... Won coach's award as a sophomore... Played both point and shooting guard throughout his career.
PERSONAL: Born on Nov. 12, 1982, in Fontana... Parents are Eric and Debra Andrew of Rancho Cucamonga... Has an older sister, Kimberly... Business administration major who hopes to run his own business upon graduation... Enjoys movies and video games... Credits Rancho Cucamonga Assistant Coach Derrick Flowers for having the most influence on his basketball career.
