Curtis Battles made great strides during the 2005-06 season and could be a
big asset to the undersized Titans in 2006-07... He is a physically imposing
player who has worked extremely hard to get into basketball shape... Redshirted
in 2004-05 and dropped about 75 pounds... Has good hands and decent offensive
moves inside... Fills the lane in the middle of a zone defense... Can be
utilized in specialized matchups against other big centers... Has been a crowd
favorite.
CSF IN 2005-06: Appeared in 14 of the Titans' 29 games last season,
averaging 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds... Had season high of 7 points at Big 12
opponent Kansas State in only 2 minutes of playing time... Three times grabbed a
high of 4 rebounds... Made 10 of 19 shots.
WEST HILLS COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Member of the best Falcons team in 25
years... West Hills (Coalinga, California) went 16-10 overall and 9-5 in
conference for Coach Mark Arce... Included in that record was a win over the
state's No. 2-ranked team, College of the Sequoias, which fell to 21-2 after a
61-49 loss to the Falcons... Curtis was a two-year letterman... Selected most
improved player after his freshman year.
DORSEY HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year varsity letterman at the Los Angeles
school... Selected team's most improved player as a senior... Also played one
season of varsity football as a tackle.
PERSONAL: Born on Mar. 26, 1984, in Long Beach... Parents are Curtis
Battles and Michelle Johnson... Has two brothers, Walter (9) and Isaiha (8
months), and four sisters -- Lakiesha (21), Shanika (16), LaNetta (15) and
Bridgette (12)... Criminal justice major... Chose Fullerton "to be part of an up
and coming program"... Credits Dorsey Coach A. Kevin Gibson for the most
influence on his career.
