Cal State Fullerton goes to 7-2 as they took care of Bethune-Cookman College 94-65 at historic Titan Gym. Point guard Bobby Brown earned Big West Conference Player of the Week honors in his 47 point effort, draining an astounding 11 of 13 three-pointers.
Disclaimer: These notes are paraphrased from a brief conversation with
assistant coach Andy Newman. Some information may not be exact quotes but the TitanCentral.com did its best to capture the points being made:
- Bobby Brown was phenomenal. Best performance, by far, for him in his
career. Scoring 47 and hitting 11 of 13 threes is truly amazing.
- Equally as impressive was his defense. He really stepped it up and
played both ends of the floor.
- Perimeter defense was especially good. Marcus Crenshaw played his best
defense of the season and Ray Reed always plays well on defense.
- In the first half we were really stagnant on offense. We weren't hitting
the open man.
- In the second half, we were much more unselfish, made the extra pass,
just an overall better team performance.
- Other players of note: Chris Minardo played well but injured his left
knee (mild sprain). He practiced today (Tuesday) but it is definitely
slowing him down so he won't be 100% for UL-Lafayette.
- Frank Robinson is playing "steady". Defensively he is playing great.
- Scott Cutley has been cleared to play despite the broken left thumb. He
practiced today as well and looks good. He will have a splint on his thumb
which should keep it straight. He has another appointment with the doctor in
three weeks.
- What happens when/if it gets hit? As long as he keeps the thumb straight
then he will be fine.
