Fullerton, CA -- Senior forward Eugene Brooks of Cal State Fullerton has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men's soccer first team. | |||

The announcement was made today by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). The El Paso, Texas, native is a bio-chemistry major with a grade point average of 3.84 on a scale of 4.0. He qualified for the national ballot by making first-team All-District 8 earlier in November. Brooks is the leading scorer in the Big West Conference with 12 goals and 26 points. He earlier earned first-team All-Big West Conference honors to go with honorable mention status in 2002 and 2005. His goal total tied for eighth best on the Titans' list of single-season totals. The last Titan to earn academic All-America first-team honors was baseball pitcher Jon Smith in 2000 and 2001. The first team: Pos - Name, School - Hometown, GPA, major GK - Matt Wideman, SMU - Fairview, TX, 3.83, finance (player of the year)
Brooks and Gonzaga's Josten along with third-team forward Chris Wright from New Mexico are the only players on the three teams from schools west of the Rocky Mountains. |
