Chris Adams, a 6-10 center from City College of San Francisco and the No.
1 Juco power forward according to The Sporting News, wanted to come
to Cal State Fullerton according to a Fresno source very close to the situation.
The Admissions and Records department, which is headed by director Jim Blackburn,
refused to admit him however.
Adams was also the No. 3 Juco player in the country according
to CBS Sportsline.
It is not clear why he was refused since he had his AA degree and all the paperwork
needed to get into the school. UNLV, the school which originally signed him,
certainly had no problems with the admit. Adams would have been eligible to
play this season if he had been allowed to attend Cal State Fullerton.
When asked why he would come to Fullerton over schools such as Fresno State,
Washington and San Diego State the source said the people around Adams were
pushing him in that direction due to the presence of head coach Bob Burton.
Adams was being recruited very heavily by Fresno State and UNLV earlier this
year when he made
a oral commitment in October of 2002 to attend UNLV. Titan head coach Bob
Burton was an assistant at Fresno State at that time and he was heavily involved
in recruiting Adams said the source.
It was earlier speculated
that Adams was going to Fresno State but that was refuted by another
article in the Fresno Bee.
In addition to Fresno State, San Diego State and Washington, Adams is also
considering Alabama.
