Turning down scholarship offers to Portland and Northern Arizona, Bobby Brown
selected Cal State Fullerton to continue his basketball career. Meanwhile, the Titans have now filled some much needed point guard depth with the
inevitable signing of Brown.
"He's going to surprise some people and a lot of schools will be saying,
'damn, we should have signed this guy,'" said Ed Azzam earlier today. "I
don't know who Fullerton has at point guard this year but he better be good.
Bobby is going to battle."
Most sources list Brown at 5'-11" or 6'-0" but Azzam said he heard Brown grew some
this summer and is now 6'-1".
"He might have some trouble guarding the small, quick guard but he's a
pretty good defensive player. He understands defense," says Azzam.
"He's an outstanding offensive player and shoots the ball very well.
"At the beginning of the year I wasn't sure he could be a Division I
point guard but when the season was over and you look back, he really improved.
He can play Division I."
Brown is a three-year varsity letterman but didn't receive significant
minutes until his senior year (he played behind Hassan Adams of Arizona his sophomore and junior years). This
year he averaged over 28 minutes per game (high school game is 32 minutes) and
ran the point for a Westchester team which won its second consecutive CIF
Division I State Championship -- and fourth consecutive City title. Coach Azzam
didn't have exact statistics but says he averaged over 15 points and 4-5 assists
per game.
Westchester ran a motion offense so it wasn't centered around the point but
Azzam says he is very good with the ball.
